When you utilize search engine optimization (SEO) there are several different techniques an SEO Networker will utilize. However, they all revolve around the same goal, which is to make websites more visible and improve their placement within search engine results. Google is the search engine which people tend to be the most concerned about, given its dominant position in the search engine market. However, the other major search engines Bing and Yahoo are also important and there are a number of smaller search engines which also influence traffic to your site. The higher your website ranks in the search engines, the better the chance you have of seeing more visitors. Oh, probably the hardest part of being an SEO Networker knows it is a continual process. You can't just "one and done" everything. Today, Ferny Ceballos and Raymond Fong want to teach you about how to stay on top. There are three important elements of your page design which add to your SEO; these are not the only things to take into account when building a website (these can also be changed in an existing site), but these are considered to be the most important: 1. Meta Tags - When utilizing meta tags, these are considered a necessity for optimizing your site. Search engine crawlers will read them and index your site. If by chance you forget to include them, several search engines won't even bother indexing your site at all. In the end you are left with a virtually invisible site. Here's a few tags: Meta Title: this is the only tag which is required by search engines and is essential for having your site indexed. The resource type listed in the code for this tag will read "document", which should be left as is: this is the only type currently used. Meta Description: Not all search engines use these tags, but most do. This description should be brief; one or two sentences will do nicely. This description will appear alongside the name of your page in the search engine's index. Meta Keyword- Here you can place as many as 12 keywords. However, make sure they are relevant to your site and its content. You should also separate them by commas. 2. Navigational Links - One of the most overlooked areas is the navigational links. When setting this area up, make sure it either on the right side or bottom of the page. Crawlers will read the text of your site just like humans do. So the first 100 words is considered to be the most important. If you make them the names of your navigational links on the right or bottom of the page, then the first 100 words will be more useful when it comes to SEO. So make sure your most important keywords are present. Also be sure you don't have a Java-script navigation bar in the area either. 3. Content - Content is what people are looking for on your site; if you provide a lot of content and update it regularly, you'll have an easier time attracting regular visitors as well as search engine crawlers, who will return to re-index your site when it is updated. This is something that Ferny Ceballos and Raymond Fong have been preaching for quite some time. So update your site with original content, instead of duplicated content. Your job as an SEO Networker is to create a plethora of traffic to your website and this is one of those ways. Having duplicate content is worse than not updating your site regularly and will cause search engines to lower your page ranking.
