The Antique Hoosier cabinet from the nineteenth century in generally considered the ancestor of the Kitchen maid cabinet of the early twentieth century. Shelving for plates and drinking vessels was present also. The year'12 saw the appearance of the Kitchen house maid cupboard. One can still find the name Wasmuth-Endicott Indiana, on some older models, though a little time after World War 2 the company started to be called the Kitchen house maid cabinet Company.

Much of what make up that world has passed into history, included in that parade into oblivion are old-style kitchens. As World War I finished in'19 the company began to try and improve on the traditional country-style design with innovations like the porcelain top. The year'24 saw a 'standardized unit system' version of the Kitchen maid cupboard make an appearance in the catalogue put out by the Wasmuth-Endicott company. The production line age was here.

Like many products sold'49 the corporation's products were now characterized as sleek, modern and practical as opposed to old fashioned and fascinating. Companies started to make extravagant sounding claims for the products based mostly on made-up words and astonishing new discoveries in their research labs and factories. Kitchen maid leaped into the competitive claims arena with the outlines Flo-Line Styling and Composite Construction. The company also told its buyers that its products now included grain-less Presdwood and Resinite Doors.

The words Composite Construction did function to describe a serious invention to its products. Aluminum and conscientiously 'selected hardwoods' were now employed in the final product where they served the customer's need the best. Aluminum was, sturdy, straightforward to get and less expensive to buy now than 'selected hardwoods'.

Wonderful that Composite Construction was born and married the two. Headlines such as 'Aluminum Production at New Peacetime High' on The Hartford Courant, has heralded the beginning of a new age. Not only aluminum, but plastic was being combined with the traditional hardwood in what was considered innovative at the time. Nor would they be very talked-about.

It isn't a big surprise that folk who collect and revive these items generally work with the older models. If you should happen to find an older Kitchen maid cupboard, then replacing the missing or rusted out hardware can prove to be a bit difficult. Perhaps in its haste to enhance the antique versions from centuries past a whole lot of skillful advantageous knowledge was lost on the way.
